Default The End of Scary Movies...?

So, I was watching scary movies last night and I came to realize that they weren’t as scary as I thought. I mean, yes if I enhance the effect such as turning off the lights and be by myself and just let my mind imagine. However, I still was fine afterwards. I remember when it was fun getting together and scare eachother, now is like dull and it made me think.

So my question now is; what does really scare you at this time in age? Since we have been exposed to so much violence and gore that the filmmaking industry tries to impress the audience with whatever category it takes to make us flinch.

For example, back in the day Freddy Krueger, Jason and the Michael Myers would scare us but now we laugh at them. Does anyone even believe in ghosts anymore? Has the Devil really accomplish to desensitize us with the media to a point that we do not longer fear hell? So ok, other means were approached like Exorcist movies for the religious type of people; Saw or Hostel for the more realistic ones. I mean, like now the 21st century has other things to worry about than that. Where is the fear? At A.I. type of movies perhaps? Since computers seem to be so prominent these days. Seriously.

What makes your mind wonder and fear these days?

I'd say that really, scary movies or atleast original scary movies have been dead since the 90's. Most of the movies being made now are either just remakes or sequels/prequels to said remakes.

As for Freddy. I remember something on the AMC channel where they talked about freddy Kreuger and said that he was designed that way, scare the little kids but to older teenagers and younger adults, he was funny cause he stuck it to the teenagers and their shenanigans.

In really, everything's really been done, to death at some points, scary people, scary monster and sometimes an intangible killer. Really, only the japanese are doing original horror flicks nowadays.

it's sad to say, but I don't think there's much creativity and originality in movies anymore, not really, especially in the scary movies.

Also with parody movie like Scary Movie taking the piss out of horror movies, it deadens the blow of actually watching horror movies to a certain degree nowadays- as you almost expect some purile joke to happen right after a supposed scary part..xD

Also the rehashing of Asian horror movies isnt doing the genre any good either.

If they ever make a remake to A Clockwork Orange, I will hunt down and savagely beat the screen writers and the director.

The only horrors I watch nowadays are Asian Horrors, because like The Dude said, they're the only ones who keep horror original nowadays. My all time favourite horror movie is The Eye, and thank god it hasn't been torn to shreds by the people who made Scary Movie.

All sorts of suppsedly scary films recently just havent been scary. The saw trilogy, remakes of the hills have eyes, hostle, the grudge, the ring, the ring 2... its so far "out there" and over-imaginative that it doesn't scare anyone.

The old Scream films are about that last scary/tense thing that i can think of.

Otherwise, if you've got an overactive imagination just go walk around a forest at night by yourself. You'll end up freaking yourself out...

....infact, that's my conclusion. Our imaginations are probably the most scary things going right now.

Exactly, as I had stated about enhancing the effect; to just turn off the lights and let the imagination take over. Is like the only way to actually feel something, by embracing it. It seems to be the only way. And talking about woods, omg yes…it is freaky if you do that. I remember the last time we were camping and we did that, lets just say that holy ****, it was definitely something we can never forget.

But anyways, scary movies now these days are no more.

Read the reviews, and make up your own mind. I'd recommend seeing them, they're worth watching just so you can get the "in-jokes" when a reference is made.

@LR: Yea, enhancing the surroundings and effects can be good :P about the camping, though, did you actually see/hear anything that freaked you out - or was it just your imagination again? xD
