The film is based off of the first book of the "His Dark Materials" trilogy, penned by Philip Pullman. Outside of the States, it's known as "Northern Lights." The books are supposed to be very good, and I went out yesterday and picked up the first one while reserving my copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Has anyone here read the books? And is anyone anticipating seeing the film? I won't bother trying to explain the plot. But if you're interested check out the Wikipedia article:

I'm on the fence on this one. It kinda looks like they're riding the coattails some of LoTR. On the other hand, it does look good. I guess I'll have to wait till it gets closer till its time of release to decide about it.

I'm a huge fan of the books; they very well might be my favourite piece of children's literature ever written. The trailer I've seen for the new film looks fantastic; let's hope it lives up to expectation.

fantastic series, all-round. I've read the books a few times, they did an on-stange production of His Dark Materials in the West End (London) but I missed it. I'm geatly anticipating the film, but I don't think they'll capture even half of the imagery the books convey.

So far, it looks good. Aww I love Nicole Kidman, she's so beautiful.
The movie reminds me of Narnia for some reason. I hope it'll be worth watching. : )
