Default Doctor Who

http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/

Anyone else here a fan of the quintessential british sci-fi show?

The new stuff is very enjoyable, but my favourite episodes are from the 70's. Yeah, the sets wobble and the budget was virtually nothing, but the stories were mostly solid and well written. My favourite old story is "Genesis of the Daleks" a Tom Baker story that first introduces the character of Davros.

New Who is just too earthbound for me, yeah Pertwee spent a lot of his tenure on earth but he had an actual reason. In the next series i'd like to see more stories set elsewhere in the universe.

are you a fan?

I have yet to watch it yet, but I definitely want to give it a shot. I've been seeing commercials for it on BBC America here, I think they are showing episodes soon here, so I'm going to record them and watch.

It's been coming on the Sci-Fi channel for over a year.

it's well worth a view.

it doesn't have the same big budget effects as american sci-fi, but it's certainly watchable. David Tennant is the best doctor since Tom Baker ^_^

Yeah, he was in Harry Potter but can't mind of who he played.

Not managed to watch too much of the new series, just couldn't stand watching Billie Piper attempting to act and some of the stories seemed to be too much like fan fiction but that just could be me. Looking forward to the newest series with the new assistant and Tennent is perfect as the Doctor.

he played Barty Crouch Jr.

i really liked Billie Piper as Rose, but i think she left at the right time. The best episode/story of the 2nd was, imo, The Impossible Planet. I really liked how grown up it felt....yes, i also liked the same door sound effects that they used in Doom.

it helped set the tone even though i'm probably the only one who noticed it.

damn right i did!

the john simm as the master rumour is rather intriguing. i want it to be true, but i don't as well. i always had him in mind as a future Doctor. but i suppose he'll be just as good as The Master too.

Indeed, but I'm actually looking forward to the one-off shows this season coming up. The Shakespear episode looks like it's going to be great as well as the cat people!

I'm a fan of Doctor Who too, but only of the new stuff. I wasn't around for the originals, but I'm glad I'm around for these. I definately agree that David Tennant is a fantastic doctor (I looove him). But he is leaving the show halfway through series 4 I believe. That will be a sad day.

I'm quite interested in what his new assisstant is going to be like. I thought Billie Piper was reasonably good, but from the new girls short part in the last episode of series 2, I'm not so sure. She wasn't the most brilliant actress... ah well, we shall have to see.

Must say, love Torchwood aswell. A fab addition to the Doctor Who franchise. It's nice to watch something with a slightly more adult inclination, and John Barrowman is a great actor. Perfect for Captain Jack. Who should be in series 3. Yay!

the BBC haven't actually confirmed a series 4, so DT's involvement isn't known at all yet. but he loves the role a lot and was quoted as saying he wanted to outlast Tom Baker who did 7 years.

Billie Piper wasn't the best actress to begin with, she got good in the fathers day episode and then got better and better. the end of series 2 was awesome....somewhat spoilt by the appearence of catherine tate though.

WHAT THE HELL IS THIS PULACE!

I haven't picked up an issue of Beano in years, but there's going to be a special issue for Comic Relief with Dr Who appearing alongside the Bash St Kids. Could be good for a laugh, and it's for charity afterall.

yeah, it looks like it could be a little bit fun. plus it's for a good cause.

on a more serious note.

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD FOR SERIES 3!

http://news.independent.co.uk/people...cle2258800.ece

this more or less confirms my suspicions.

I would imagine that the show would last at least 4 seasons with the popularity it's got right now, there's nothing really to challenge it atm either.

When is the 3rd season starting?

I hope this "New Who" lasts a good long time. I think, because of the nature of the show, it can stay fresh and relevant for a good few years yet. especially as, as you said, there's nothing to challenge it's dominance of saturday night TV and the scripts are well written, fun and usually to a high level. except love and monsters though. XD

as for the new series, the rumour is that it'll start around the end of March.

as the new series publicity kicks into gear, the BBC release a "teaser picture" to help usher in the start of the new series. link:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/galle...tha/1024/7.jpg

as you can see, it all looks a bit exciting.

plus, with the news that both Micheal Sheen and John Simm are competing for the role of The Master, this series is looking to be the best one yet. Daleks in Manhattan and Shakespeare. i'm loving it already and my squeeeeing is about to begin for the next 13 weeks.

not to mention the cartoon 13-parter running as part of Totally Doctor Who on CBBC:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/galle...artha_anim.jpg

it's called the quest of the infinite and is voiced by David Tennant and Freema Agyeman (The Doctor and Martha).
