For those people into Asian flicks I recommend Tae Guk Gi - The Brotherhood of War.

It is different from your average American movie and stands up to movies such as "Saving Private Ryan". The special effects are something gorgeous considering it wasn't out of Hollywood. The acting authentic and the themes conveyed charismatic. So if you want something out of the ordinary this maybe the flick to watch.

Children of Men is one everyone ought to be seeing. Sadly enough, it's not getting the attention it deserves. Definitely my favorite film of 2006.

I do actually own a copied DVD of Children of Men, but haven't gotten around to seeing it. I just seem to keep tossing it to the back of the line.

For an interesting historical piece of cinema, though it might be not the most brilliant movie ever made, and still has quite some shoch value ( the director got murdered because of this movie ) I'd recommend Salo: Or The 120 Days Of Sodom. it's quite a filthy movie, and the message is simply a very anti fascismmessage, and it has people eating poo, but it's worth the watch just because it's controversy. Possibly the most controversial movie ever made.

Having just finished the Dollars trilogy, I'd recommend all three films of it, even if A Fistful of Dollars is a ripoff of Kurosawa's Yojimbo (the other two are For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly). If nothing else, because it has perhaps the most effective use of a cinematic score I've ever seen (and it doesn't hurt that Ennio Morricone is one of the best soundtrack composers in the history of film).

Once Upon A Time In The West could be added to that trilogy. Totally classic stuff that never bores

That's next on my list of films to watch after rewatching TG,TB&TU, actually. Thus far Leone has yet to disappoint me.

I need to get some of Kurosawa's films, but I can't seem to find any of them locally. Same with Werner Herzog's. Guess it's time to place another Internet order.

Well, Once Upon A Time In America is one of the best gangster movies ever made, and A Fistful Of Dynamite AKA Duck You Sucker is pretty fun too

I've heard that. Once Upon a Time in America was apparently his most politically conscious film, as well. If I were able to find that I'd probably have watched it already; might as well add that to the list of flicks to pick up asap.

Out of the three, I think I liked For a Few Dollars More the most. As great as TG, TB, & TU is, Col. Mortimer is a thousand times cooler as a character than Angel Eyes.

Col. Mortimer was pretty damn great, yes. I dunno that I can choose between For a Few Dollars More and TG,TB&TU either, although TG,TB&TU obviously wins in terms of sheer epicness and complexity. I think For a Few Dollars More may have had the best soundtrack of the three; the use of the music box was damn chilling. I think the scene in FFV about the death of Batz's parents may have been an homage to that, actually.

I think The Good, the Bad & The Ugly is the greatest Sergio Leone movie. That movie seems perfect to me while I have seen it probably more then 100 times, and I still find it amazing. Very epic indeed. ThoughOnce Upon A Time In The West and For A Few Dollars More is are all time favourites aswell.

I like the idea of this thread, but having these long-ass lists is kind of dumb. Everyone is going to have basically the same movies on their's with one or two variations. Why not post a single movie and then state why you enjoyed it.
