Default The Departed

Picked it up yesterday and finally got to watch it today. I must agree it is definitely one of Scorsese's best. Anyone else see this film? It's got some memorable quotes, my personal favorite was "If they were smart, they wouldn't be peurtoricians."

Great picture. I saw it when it was in theaters last fall. I love Scorsese, and his greatness is readily apparent with this film. It's been a while since I've seen the film so I couldn't detail exactly why I enjoyed it, aside from how absolutely brutal and unforgiving it is. The only character I really gave a **** about though was Leonardo DiCaprio's and Martin Sheen's, everyone else I hated, but that was probably the point.

The Departed is one of the best films Martin Scorsese has ever made, up in the ranks with Taxi Driver. I mean, a cast of Leonardo Dicaprio, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen and Jack Nicholson, that film is going to be good even if the plot was that they were secret monkeys drinking lager in a forbidden world parrallel to Mars. I mean, the structure of The Departed was just mind-blowing.

It was fantastic Scorsese got an Oscar for this and deservedly so. Everything about the film was top notch. The cast assembled, as Sunshine says, was amazing and they played well off each other. Lies, betrayal it has it all.

It was a great movie and very well put together like it was Shakespeare or something. Martin Sheen played his role perfect and is a big reason why I loved the movie. Not only Sheen though, the cast was great, and DeCaprio played his role as good as he did in Gangs of New York. * which was another great Scorsese movie.

Loved it. It was one of those films that could have gone on for another hour and I wouldn't have minded, I was totally engrossed. I was particularly impressed with Matt Damon as I've accused him of being rather wooden in previous flicks but he shined in this one.

My favorite movie to date. It's good to see Jack Nicholson in a these kind of movies again. Some of his past movies were chick flicks and I was starting to think he lost his edge.

Jack Nicholson's edge hasn't been the same since Chinatown, regrettably. Although he did have some awesome incoherent moments in The Departed. I wonder if anyone wrote anything worthwhile on it yet.

Necro-post

I finally watched it, went and borrowed it from the vid store. ****ing great movie, the cast was top notch. The only problem with it I had was that the plot was near identical, heck pretty much 99% the same as Infernal Affairs. It was like watching Infernal Affairs all over again with white actors, in a western setting but with a better script and more depth. I was surprised at how little had been changed. The cast and the acting saved it for me, man that was good.
