Default The Compilation of Final Fantasy VII

... Do you love it, hate it, or are you still waiting for more?

Frankly, as of now, I've kinda been unimpressed with it. Yeah sure, when AC came out I was "OMGZOIUERP(*U@Q#!" about it, but sadly I went to go watch it the other day and I couldn't sit through it. I can sit through all 3 extended editions of the LoTR movies, but I couldn't watch AC in a single sitting. For the "True hardcore" fans I guess it's good, but once the novelty of it ran off.. ehh...

And then theirs DoC. Storyline wise I was really impressed with it... but then again, I happen to know all the juicy tidbits that most Americans don't. Which pisses me off that the best parts (which to me is the history of the Tsviets) was just left out of the overseas version. Still, storyline overall was good.

Gameplay was crap. Seriously, and I'm not hardcore of gamer gameplay wise. I still wanted to chuck the controller a couple of times.

Can't even talk about anything else because we haven't seen it [hint hint SE!], haven't announced a remake because of course, nobody wants that... /sarcasm....

I don't hate it, I'm not madly in love with it like I used to be... overall I'm just... disappointed.

Discuss.

For me, as much as I love FFVII, all of the spinoff games are a bit much. Theres just too much VII now. I think it would probably been better if they had left it alone.

The whole thing has really just been a pointless exercise and as you've said Advent Children and DoC were unimpressive. The movie just didn't have any substance to it and fantastic (and slightly dull) visuals can't cover up a bad movie and it's difficult to watch the whole thing from start to finish after the first viewing. DoC was just a below average game and having Final Fantasy on the front was the only reason it would have sold well. Doubt that Last Order, Before Crisis and the mobile game would be any better.

Honestly, the more Square milk FFVII-mania, the less I find myself liking the original game in the first place. I've never been particularly motivated to check out any of the Compilation; I guess it's because my first experience with Final Fantasy direct sequels (FFX-2) was so unappealing to me that I didn't really feel any motivation to continue with them.

That said, if they made add-ons for FFVI, I'd probably be completely sucked in, even though the idea of adding anything to the story of that game (beyond what got left out from the Japanese version) is blasphemy to me.

Yeah, I think Square is trying to milk all they can out of the series. I was pretty impressed, and eagerly anticipating AC, but when DoC and Crisis Core and what have you came out, I grew, well tired of it to say the least. I think if they stopped at AC and Last Order, it'll still be okay.

For the record, I didn't play DoC at all so I won't comment too much about that. Just that after reading all about the hype and seeing screenshots of the game, some how, it didn't motivate me enough to go grab a copy of the game.

And I certainly hope that rumors of a remake for PSVII are unfounded. Had just about enough of all the VII madness.

I highly doubt the hype over VII is over, here's a reason why:
Nomura said he was gonna release five games and movies this year. The games are Kingdom hearts II final mix, Crisis core FFVII, FFVII Advent children complete, Its a wonderful world, and one more yet to be announced.
He said it will be announced soon. He also said it HAD to be released this year or it would lose all its meaning. Now think about it, its 2007, oh wow theres a 7 in there. Its also the 10th anniversary of FFVII, I mean its so obvious they're gonna do something else with it. A remake I think would be great, but not another spin-off, and especially not another mobile phone game because those are just retarded.

I like FFVII, but I cant play it again. Ive completed it like 6 times. :/

I don't mind the compilation... but then, I was never expecting anything epic from it. In my opinion, they have one last chance with Crisis Core (which, if done right, could be an excellent game)... if they screw that one up, I give up. Of course, I don't mind buying stuff just for the fan service. It'd be nice, though, if they put the same kind of heart into the spinoffs that they did with FFVII.

FFVII used to be one of my favourites, but I started to lose interest when it began to get all these things added on for the compilation, thereby getting a bunch of fanboys which quickly turned me off the series. FFVII itself I still love, it was my first FF but it's gotten a bit too popular for my liking.

I think Square is trying to get every cent it can by making all these additions to the compilation. It has at least ten items for it currently, and God knows when they'll add more to it. The thing is, the more they add, the more retarded the games/movies get. I will admit though, Crisis Core does have my full attention.

The more spinoffs this game gets the more I hate it. Square has already had at least 3 games (if not more) and a movie for it. I basically hate the compilation because I feel Square is neglecting the rest of the series. Yet I would rather not see any spinoffs because they seems to screw up the image of the orignal game.

When FFVII was out I neither hated nor loved it. It had it's memorable parts but those began to wane as the fanboys began leeching of the game as Exodus stated. Frankly I am one to favor and support the underdogs like FFVIII and FFIX.

At the moment I have not played any game in the compilation or finishing watching Advent Children.

I'm quite fond of the compilation. I thought that Advent Children was pretty good (when I found out it was being made, and the amount of time I had to wait for it in the UK, I was pretty pleased it came out), the graphics and sound were amazing, the storyline was pretty good (despite the plot holes), and I was glad to find out what had happened to the characters.

Dirge of Cerberus was quite enjoyable I thought. The gameplay wasn't exactly complicated, but I got a kind of guilty satisfaction from it:happy:. Storyline wise, I thought it was brilliant. Vincent was such a mysterious character, and that game revealed the truth about him. I have a distinct love for him now (as if you couldn't tell )

Crisis Core could be amazing if they get it right. It's been compared to a combination of Kingdom Hearts style gameplay, and Final Fantasy otherwise. This has probably garnered the most interest for me. I can't wait for it to come out in Europe (always a long wait), it'll renew my interest in my PSP (which lays discarded on my bedside table).

A remake of Final Fantasy VII would be fantastic I think. Just imagine Advent children style graphics, on the PS3 engine. If you've seen the Tech Demo they did, you'll understand. And the sound could be orchestral, without the simple midi tunes. I think it would be a lovely way to top the compilation off. Plus, it would be introducing the magic of Final Fantasy VII to a whole new generation.

words cannot express the waves of apathy that wash over me when i think of the compilation of FFVII.

AC was so bad that the compilation was rendered virtually unredeemable.

SE should remake FFVII and then move on, it's what the fans want. not ****ty sequel after ****ty prequel.

You said it doc.

For me, I hate the compiliation. Okay, maybe hate is too strong of a word, but I was greatly unimpressed with it. I still love the original FFVII game though. For me, it is the only FFVII that exists, and I completely disregard these others now.

I didn't enjoy playing DoC, and as Soda said the stuff that wasn't included was the best part. I managed to beat it only because I didn't want to waste money and not even finish it........*sob sob*

All the great graphics in the world couldn't help it. I wanted to jump on crates! That game.........Ughh I don't even want to think about it. And Cid Highwind...........SE totally has killed his character for me outside of the original FFVII. I still mourn for him.

I am very skeptical about Crisis Core.

It's true that the more Square use the original game as a way to market their new stuff the more it's going to take away from the original game. I can't really comment too much on the compilation as I've had evry little contact with it, but I've not really much desire to either. I've watched AC and while I'll admit it's not the best film in the world I think those who say it's awful are over-reacting, why? Quite simply because if they were expecting some masterpiece then they're the idiots, it was obvious it was just for the hardcore fans and thatthe fanboys and girls were going to love it regardless, I was prepared to accpet that before it came out and I wasn't expecting it to be a piece of genius. I watched it with low expectations and fully aware of what to expect, if I had anticipaetd it to be brilliant then no doubt I would have been very disappointed, but thankfully enough I wasn't stupid enough to do that.

I don't really give a toss, tbqh. Every installment in the compilation has been complete **** but it's not like SquareEnix is going to spend their time on something meaningful otherwise. Better this than another port of FFI.

I'm in a group of authors who are whole-heartedly protesting the whole mess. Why? Because it's pissing with our fanfiction. New waves of writers are coming in without knowing the plot to the original games, there are people saying Kadaj/Tifa is the one true pairing, et cetera. So we're happily ignoring that anything was made after the original game. We won't acknowledge the characters, we smile and nod when someone mentions Before Crisis, Dirge of Cerberus was just a really bad dream my friend Cendrillo had, Advent Children was a semi-impressive fanmade music video, Reno doesn't say 'yo,' Rufus and Tseng. . .well, we all know what actually happened to Rufus and Tseng. . .and that's about it.

So. . .I think I have a religious aversion to being a part of this thread or something. -shrug.-

that line right there is the best description of AC i've ever heard. Dr. Bones, you are a genius of epic proportions and already a god amongst mere mortals.

CC is the only one i actually want to play anymore. loadsa people hated DoC and it made my small amount of interest totally wane.
