I tend to like animes that have a bit of everything- action and fighting, usually sword fights or the like. Touches of comedy also appeal when done right.

When it comes to what I like, I'm pretty open to everything except the really cutesy anime (like Tokyo Mew Mew or Hamtaro, those kind of shows) and harem anime (like Love Hina, although Tenchi Muyo is definately an exception).
But I think what I enjoy the most out of an anime is the fantasy genre more then the outer space/futuristic genre. I'm a huge fan of Miyazaki's works mostly because I love any scenerio in an anime that involves meadows and fields of blooming flowers, large mountains, beaches, oceans, forests, and other similiar landscapes. And Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, and of course Princess Mononoke were full of those. Watching that kind of anime gives me some feeling of peace and awe. But when I'm not in the mood to be peaceful or overwhelmed by a beautiful landscape, I like action/horror anime a lot. Hellsing is a favorite of mine. It brings the whole creepy feeling to the show, but throws in a lot of action and fighting into the mix as well. Blood: The Last Vampire was also another favorite, as well as Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (amazing artwork in that film). But an anime that I enjoy that mixes the horror with more mystery and suspense then it does action would have to be Elfen Lied. Anybody who has watched that anime knows exactly what I'm talking about. And sometimes I'm in the mood for a good laugh, so I'll watch anime like Azumanga Daioh. Sailor Moon was always enjoyable (until they reached that one season involving the circus, because that was way too much for me), and I hate to say it, but Dragonball Z is still a guilty pleasure of mine (just not the Buu saga, or GT for that matter...). I like action and comedy, and that mixed them both together very well. I think Digimon would be in the same boat as that one (I only found the first and third seasons enjoyable though), as well as Yuyu Hakusho and Trigun. Mostly because when I wasn't laughing, I was watching a good fight. Sci-fi anime wasn't anything I got into. Granted, I liked Akira and the manga version, but it was just too complex and hard for me to understand. I never really found myself getting into anime like Outlaw Star, although I do love Cowboy Bebop with a passion. I guess Tenchi Muyo would qualify as a sci-fi anime and that show was always enjoyable, but other then that, most science fiction anime just doesn't appeal to me. Wow, that was a lot. If you didn't feel like reading all of that, here's the whole thing in a nutshell: I like pretty much everything. |

Typically the kind involving space cowboys are the ones I find I like the best... Belive it or not there are MORE of them then just Cowboy Bebop.

I guess I like a little bit of everything. My favorites are Air Gear, Death Note and Kaze no Stigma. AG and KnS have a certain amount of humor and at the same time there's fantasy and an unrealistic note in them. DN is more serious compared to other two, but the story is fantastic. I really don't like space sagas and battle field type of animes. |
