Default Sound in KH1

I liked the first Kingdom Hearts, but one thing that really struck me was the lack of sound throughout the game. Many of the cutscenes and worlds, especially Tarzan's, didn't have consistent or good sound effects/music. I would have liked something in the Clayton cutscene - I think it adds more to games. A game with a really good soundtrack, like many of the Final Fantasys, stands out more in my opinion.

Well, you gotta understand the composers did their best. Yoko and the others did a fine job I would say, but they aren't another nobuo uematsu. That guy had epic music done right.

Huh?

It's that time of the year again. Where school begins to take more time out of the week. If I stop showing up for more than a week, I'm probably just dead from the weight of the books.

Yoko did quite a good job, however the engine used for the first Kingdom Hearts game - at the time was similar to that of Musashi - Samurai Legend so there were actual limitations on music. It's not quite as simply as composing, recording a piece and throwing it into the game.

As with what happened in Musashi - music was distracting players during battles, so it was toned down within the battles in Kingdom Hearts - specifically Tarzan as it made the players focus on where the enemy was.

I also do have to agree with Lai, but that's just my opinion on the subject.

I understand that they did their best, but I was really making a comment on games in general, and used parts of Kingdom Hearts as an example.

((If it's on games in general, then it does not belong in the Kingdom Hearts-specific sub-forum and belongs either in General Discussion OR the Gaming sub-forum)).

The main thing that I personally felt that let down the Kingdom Hearts soundtrack was the complete re-use of One Winged Angel when Square had multiple recordings and/or arrangements to choose from of OWA, and instead they just reused the original version from VII.

The lack of music in some places made some sections of gameplay stand out more, but it also has yet another additional factor that the music compositions were not solely chosen by Square and had to actually be approved by the Disney committee whilst Kingdom Hearts was in production otherwise we would have ended up with a usual amazing Square/SE soundtrack.

True. That's what you get for having a partnership. Everything needs to be ran by the other before it's put through the mainstream. This is why I personally prefer working alone. However, jobs take longer to do alone so, it's also nice to work on a team. I'm rambling again. Wall, you're going to notice I do this a lot so if I end up rambling on in a whole post that begins to sound unimportant, you can skip it.
