Favorite book!

I have read som great books. I can't translate the first books name but the book series is called something like "The tale of the Orori Clan" or something of the sort. It's about a old-Samurai-Japan and I love all of the books.
The writer is someone called Lian Hearn.

I guess it's been a long time since I found a book that really wowed me, and that was back when I was easily. . .wowed. But what I can say is that Aldous Huxley's Brave New World and Daniel Quinn's Ishmael did a lot to revolutionize my school of thought ( or did they school my thoughts of revolution? Hi-oh! ) 1984 was a good read, but I guess the fact that my ex-girlfriend's in love with it and carries it like a Bible made me really think of it as just another 'worst-case scenario' book. Also, anything by Kurt Vonnegut is fantastic.

If I had to put something on top, though, I think it would come to Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita. Nabokov gets major respect from me for writing it in English, outside of his native Russian, ( that's what I've heard, anyway; I'm not absolutely sure ) and still making it flow beautifully. He's got a dark, dark wit that takes some concentration, and the plot of the book isn't all that twisting and deep, but it's a journey of a read. He's got a talent for using the right words at the right times and really pulling a person into the story. And, of course, the story's pretty good, too. Definitely worth reading once or twice.

For new books that could cement themselves as classics, see Audrey Niffenegger's The Time Traveler's Wife. This woman is going somewhere with her writing. Her debut novel was fantastic; I haven't enjoyed a book in a long, long time.

There are a lot very good books out there, but if i had to choose one, i'd choose "The Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams. I've read it several times, and i find it just as amusing every time.

Another great book is The Stand by Stephen King. probably the best book he has written, together with the Talisman.

Oh, and i have to mention the Foundation trilogy by Isaac Asmimov. The best Science Fiction ever writtem, except for hgttg.

Well certainly among the most prolific.

I can't pin down a favorite because, hey I'm flakey with my taste, but as a series of books, Discworld by Terry Pratchet and anything Discworld I absolutely love. The combination of hilariousness, cleverness and insightfulness which are all halmarks of any of the discworld books is so expertly done... And my favorites of them would be Guards Guards, Small gods, The Truth and Going Postal.

Wow now this is a topic I cannot decide upon. I have so many favorite books on my list it is not funny. I'd say my top four are:

1. Temple of the Winds by Terry Goodkind
2. Stone of Tears by Terry Goodkind
3. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by Rowling
4. Watership Down by Richard Adams

My reasoning for these books are because they kept me reading until the wee hours of the morning. For instance, Temple of the Winds, I finished that in two days and once I was done I was exhausted. It's just something about a story that keeps me reading. If I haven't enjoyed what I've been reading by chapter two I usually put the book down and take a break to clear my mind. Then I go back to it and finish it.

The Prince - by Niccolo Macchiavelli had been my favorite for a few years. Nothing beats his cold-eyed politics in my opinion, it truly is great to read.

I'm somewhat of a literature freak, so I'll have to put Don Quixote and The Divine Comedy well ranked in my favorites too.

My very favourite book is Tom Clancys Rainbow six. It's the book that got me reading again after about 6 years without touching a book.
It's rather complicated but the story keeps you interested and gives you just enough information to keep you wanting to read, whilst still not telling you too much.

Good old French Book, picked it up a while ago sadly it doesn't have a cover so I don't remember who the author was but it is VERY good and it's overall plot made me think of Laguna's film in Final Fantasy VIII of the same name.

I'm actually reading too many books at the same time to be bothered to list them all so basically, I'd have to say Le Chevalier de la Sorcière / Le Chevalier de Sorcière / Le Sorcière Chevalier would be my favorite book.

Ive read, like, every edition of Black Beauty there ever was. 10/10.
Im currently reading Les Miserables by Victor Hugo, Unabridged edition. Its funny, in the broadway play, The whole thing concentrates on Cosette, but the book can jump to many different characters (like Jean Valjean and Marius) or many different events (like The Battle Of Waterloo or Jean Valjean helping Cosette's mother out of prison.) and they're all intertwined. All connected. you should Really read the full version of this book. I give it a 10000/10.
My favorite author right about now is a tie between Jerry Spinelli and Frank Peretti. Jerry Spinelli is a children's book author, made famous by the newberry- award winning book Maniac Magee. Frank Peretti is a Christian horror novel writer. I love his Veritas Project books. I could read this series a hundred times through and still be enchanted by it EvErY TiMe.

Mine would have to be Pern, the dragon rider series from Anne McCaffery.
I'd rate her books (I have all of them : ) 10. Because how she describes the dragons and everything else.

Wow, I have a lot of favorite books and authors. If I had to narrow it down, however, I can probably think of two books I would read over and over again without tiring of them

Jurassic Park, by Michael Crichton. This guy is really good at writing thriller novels but almost always adds a very sophisticated scientific background to them. This one is so famous because it still remains the best written premise and plot he has ever created. I feel awkward explaining what seems to me common knowledge, but for anyone who by some unlucky chance has never heard about it, the book is about a group of people who become trapped on an island that was intended to be a dinosaur theme park--that used real dinosaurs cloned from blood in amber-frozen mosquitoes. Lots of suspense, and dinosaurs, and science, and blood, and awesomeness. Some of his novels may be better, but this one will always have a special place in my heart.

The second is And Then There Were None, by Agatha Christie. I was a murder mystery fan at some point, and again I find this book very psychologically captivating. Basically it puts Ten people who were indirectly murderers at some point in their troubled pasts on an island (what is it with me and islands, lol?) with no escape, and each of them start dying, one by one in ways that remarkably resemble a poem called ten little indians, and yet they have no idea which, if any, of them is doing the killing. I won't give away the ending, but it's really, really good.

So those are my favorite fiction books. Nonfiction, I'd probably say something like Chaos or Fingerprints of the Gods, but I'm certain you guys wouldn't be as interested in that stuff...

Mine is Beowulf,The Tale of Gilgamesh,Dante's Inferno,Brave New World, etc. I like old literature books i like a few new one's i read the whole Harry potter series in a week it was okay i guess. I also like real life aspects also msteries and I hate to admit it I'm draw to........love novels

Chaotic: Romance novels or love novels? Romance novels are excuses for old women to read about sex scenes. Love novels are anything about true Romance, though they usually mostly fall under the sci-fi/fantasy/realistic fiction/adventure genres that just so happen to have a strong love theme as well.

I really enjoyed Beowulf (the movie was fine for what it was but I prefer the book), Inferno was better (they're making a game of that) but I think out of those Brave New World is my favorite. I love dystopian novels almost as I love thrillers and murder mysteries...

Judging by your preferences, I think you'd like The Master and Margarita by Bulgakov. It's a sort of gothic love story about the devil taking over Moscow and doing all sorts of grotesque mischief. I also noted some hints of Alice in Wonderland bizarreness in that book as well...

Okay, I have a question for everyone: I have two huge books. The first is the complete Sherlock Holmes series, and the second is the complete Grimm's Fairy Tales. I've read a few of each before but I am unsure which to read next. Anyone opinions on either one, positive or negative, would be appreciated.

i perfer both really in a sense i literally do not judge a book by it's cover so i read what I feel intrest me even if it's a bad book I read it to it's end.I think if a writer took the time to write their tales I will respect the writer by reading their book
