Well I thought I might-as-well open a thread for discussion on Dan Brown's Works.

For those who do not know Dan Brown is the author of the extremely popular books below:

The DaVinci Code (now a movie too, but still not NEARLY as good as the book IMHO)

At this moment I only own Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code, and have only fully read the Da Vinci Code (which I thought was AMAZING).

The Da Vinci Code albeit fiction is indeed based on truth, in a realistic environment (of 'today'), with believeable caractors. I felt this added an added SENCE of "depth" that I think made the book all the more enjoyable.
I noticed a lot of critisim aganst The Da Vinci Code, which I felt was rooted in the very thing that the book is about (how faith is a paramount part of the human psyche, not only for those who are proffoundly Christian, Buddist, Atheist, or have faith in things like The Holy Grail or for some merely self-preservation).

C'mon let's talk about this! It has been blasted across all other media, so why not FFE? :P

I was really into DVC and Angels and Demons back when I still gave a **** about things religious. He's presenting a number of interesting theories that the masses probably haven't heard, although it's hardly as though he came up with them himself. That said, the plots of his books are extremely... basic, and I find myself questioning his characterization a lot of the time.

Still, he's getting people to question the dogmas they were brought up with, so I can't look a gift horse too squarely in the mouth.

His theories and conclusions are worth checking out, but he's pretty meh-ish, as a writer. Not that his books are bad. Just his writing doesn't really pop.

I've tried reading Digital Fortress a couple months ago, but it was a book I just couldn't get into so I stopped. I'll probably try reading the Da Vinci Code one of these days.

Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code are way better than his other two books, which I couldn't get into at all, and I have to say that if not for the religious conspiracy theory elements I wouldn't have gotten into either of those either. He's rather meh as a writer, but at least he spins an entertaining yarn.

I've read DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons. Angels and Demons I found to be a more interesting story, they both run along the same lines really.

I have to admit I quite enjoyed both of the books (I haven't read any of his other ones, I heard they weren't good). Sure they weren't that well written, but they certainly were gripping and told an interesting story. I think it's important to remember that it's just fiction. If you look closely there are loads of inconsistencies with reality in his books, simply to tell a better tale.

When I was in Paris I went on a walking tour that took you around to the sites mentioned in the DaVinci Code and I've been to most of the London locales as well.

I've read all his books and i do find them quite entertaining. But as said, they are quite basic, and they are similar to eachother. DVC and A&D is better than the other two, because of the religious aspect. The theories are very interesting. From what i have heard, it's his wife who has done all the research.

Dan Brown is an idiot. Anyone who studied English can put out a poorly written book channeling someone else's theories. All Dan Brown did was take someone else's theory and present it in an action adventure narrative, with some interesting but cliched characters. The fact that he's used the same narrative structure as a formula for other books only proves he's a fairly talentless writer.

Seconded. I was going to make a post similar to this. Sure, it was an interesting theory and concept, but it looked like a sixth grader wrote it. And each book had a typical hot chick sidekick to go along with it.
