Somewhat. I'm more into black metal, as I'm sure my charts on last.fm will reflect, but prog can still capture my attention if it's done right. Properly categorized, Orphaned Land probably qualify as progressive death/folk metal, but due to the significant Middle Eastern influence on their music (they're Israeli) even that description doesn't really do them justice. I've heard them categorised as "Oriental metal" before, which I guess does as good a job as anything else
Orphaned Land - Ocean Land (The Revelation) While most albums worth their salt are made to be listened to in one sitting, this album is even more so than most of them, being a concept album. So yeah. ![]() |

ViDoll - An extra
A up and coming band, they're making quite a name for themselves recently but to be honest I don't see what all the fuss is about. Sure they're not bad per say, but they're not exactly anything fantastic either, the only real difference I can see from them and many other bands from teh same ilk is that it's very well produced for an indie band. I think I'll keep an eye on them to see how they progress but at this early stage I'd say they're pretty average and nothing to shout about. 5/10 |

Wizard - Grave
No not THAT Wizard... These guys again are a pretty average band, yet they have the tendancy to make some really really kick ass songs. They get about as close as anyone to Phantasmagoria with their synth use etc but don't make it as prominent a feature on the music. The vocalist is god considering most indie bands vocals are awful, overall the instruments are evry well played. It's a great moment whenthe song starts and the other highlight is the solo, not too long but at least it's good. One of the best songs they've done and I've actually probably listened to this more than I would have thought before. 8/10 |

Nightmare - Tokyo Shonen
A VK band with something a little different to offer, these guys seem to get off on the fact that they can be as strange as they like. Considering the name fo their band they're actually quite upbeat and easy to listen to, obviously it's still heavier than most stuff around but there's much heavier stuff out there than this. This is an upbeat number which for some reason reminds me of Twisted metal, no idea why though. 7/10 |

Minimoni - Minimoni Jankenpyon
The genius that is. To think that I once wasn't too keen on this song...it's an awesome album opener but to say it prepares you for the onsalught that follows would be a lie. It gives you a taster that's for sure, but "prepares"is most certainly the wrong word. Pure insane, drug fueled, sugar induced quality. 9/10 |

Summoning - Nightshade Forests
Imo, Dol Guldur can be still considered be Blackmetal, and I almost forgot how much I love this album. Symphonic Blackmetal won't never be as atmospheric and as epic as Dol Guldur is. In fact, I'd rather listen to Dol Guldur then watching the LotR movies. It's that good. |

Minimoni - Minihamuzu no Ai no Uta
The second track in an assault of pure genius, even better than the opener. This truly was Minimoni at it's greatest, it's a shame that they're no longer with us, but it's better than the shameful way that they went out. 10/10 |

What would you say is the best Summoning album? I need to check out more of their catalog besides just Oath Bound and Stronghold.
Weakling - This Entire ****ing Battlefield Alongside Wolves in the Throne Room, this band is far and away the best that US black metal has to offer. It really pisses me off that they never recorded more than the one album, especially since John Gossard's next project, The Gault, didn't impress me anywhere near as much. I still need to check out Asunder though. When I'm more in the mood for funeral doom. |

Minas Morgul and Dol Guldur, the more blackmetal orientated albums are the best except for the first album because that sounded just like a Burzum clone. Asunder is great ****ing Doom though.
Internal Suffering - Choronzonic Forcr Domination Nice br00tal wake up. |
