You better do that, because Abigor is one of the best bands in it's genre. Unique, innovative and progressive in some sort of way while containing the aesthetics of real Blackmetal.

Red Sparowes - Buildings Began To Stretch Wide Across Blah Blah Blah

And I'm off to bed while playing a nice relaxing song.

Yeah, judging from Nachthymnen they seem quality indeed. What album would you recommend I get next?

Red Sparowes are great. I especially like the political messages in their songs, which, come to think of it, is pretty common for me amongst post-rock bands really

Akercocke - Praise the Name of Satan

lol satan. British progressive black metal band whose music can't really be described as anything other than completely off-the-wall. Not quite as off-the-wall as Sigh's later stuff, but loads of fun nonetheless. Choronozon isn't quite as great as Words That Go Unspoken, Deeds That Go Undone but the couple times I've listened to it thus far I've been quite impressed nonetheless.

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

It's a bit strange, but the music video could be impairing my judgement. Great song though, I suppose.

Enslaved - The Cromlech Gate

Considering how "prog" most people consider this album to be there's some brutal stuff on here. This track is one example. I really don't know of any other metal band doing stuff comparable to what Enslaved has been doing the past seven years or so though, so no complaints here.

Enslaved - Violet Dawning

However, by this point they had way more to do with prog than they did to do with black metal. In fact, the only thing remotely black metal about this album is the vocals. Fantastic stuff all the same, though.

Aaron; the black metal guru! ;D

Dragonland - Contact

An excellant track of an excellant new album. I just don't feel this track belongs to this band, they've improved so much since their "Starfall" era, and of course their earlier albums were genius, but unnoticed. This new album "Astronomy" is just awesome all round.

The Ruins Of beverast - Rain Upon The Impure

Finally arrived in the mail today. Though I have listened to it already a couple of times, I'm still amazed by this piece of sinister art. This is the best Blackmetal album from 2006, by miles. That atmosphere is very morbid and nasty, while the sound is very original. Visions of sinister rituals and brutal medieval slaughter comes to mind while listening to this. I already loved the first Ruins album, but Rain Upon the Impure might even be be better. Definitely the best Nagelfar spawn.

Enslaved - Slaget i skogen bortenfor [Battle in the Forest Beyond]

While I'd have a hard time ranking the Enslaved discography as a whole, this track might actually have to qualify as their second best; "Større enn tid, tyngre enn natt" being the best. They definitely never topped the unbridled energy of their debut EP, as far as I'm concerned; they played like a band determined to take over the world, and just about capable of doing it. It really is an exhilarating listen like little else in their catalog.

The Ruins Of Beverast - Rain Upon The Impure again.

I'm starting to getting convinced that this is one of those Blackmetal albums. One of those Blackmetal albums that have so much in them that qualifying it as brilliant won't be enough. This material have the same impact on me, as for example when Zyklus got released. Or when I heard Dead As Dreams for the first couple of times. There's a lot of stuff going on, and it's definitely a grower, but damn, these 80 minutes are way too short, and I almost never say that about albums with such length. I'll be damned if I'm not gonna love this as I love Zyklus. Not too many intro's as on Unlock The Shrines, and still those awesome spoken samples, very effective. I can only think of GS!BE who could pull of spoken samples off so effectively that it flows with the music.

Downloading that now.

Enslaved - Alfadr Odinn [All-Father Odin]

This song isn't quite as manic as the previous one; it's a bit more reverential, which makes sense given the subject matter. Still, it's great stuff and proves they were a fantastic band right from the start. (The demos aren't bad either, but they have **** sound quality compared to their official releases)

Yankee Bayonet - The Decemberists (The Crane Wife)

This is my first Decemberists album, and it was critically and popularly acclaimed as one of the best albums last year. I'm enjoying it so far. I had heard stuff by them before and always liked it, but my sweetie gave me this one for V-Day.

I need to be arsed to check them out at some point. Given their apparent like of Russian history (judging from their choice of moniker) they sound like they'd have lyrics that would appeal to me

Enslaved - Norvegr [Norway]

A bold and grandiose theme. It's entirely instrumental and lasts for nearly eleven minutes without too much variation, but it works nicely for the effect they're trying to achieve as an outro (for the end of their first LP). So yeah, I likes it.

Green Day - Jesus Of Surburbia/city of the damned/i don't care.

a modern punk masterpiece. not just this song, the entire album is a statement on todays society.

i never thought that any band would have the balls/material to make long, meaningful punk rock. but green day re-defined a stale genre. a good song and a great album from the best punk rock band ever. america's redeeming feature.

Sounds like you'd probably like Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

I very much do. They're actually my top-played artist on last.fm.

Orphaned Land - Building the Ark

Few other metal bands are making material this complex and epic right now. This album took eight years to conceive, write and record, and it shows; I really can't imagine how this album could have been improved upon in any manner, and it's rather refreshing to hear something coming out of Israel that isn't "RAWR ZIONISM ÜBER ALLES" (as this album has representatives of the three major monotheistic religions working together, as if there were nothing separating them). While religious music can often come off sounding as preachy and pretentious, that never happens here; it just adds further depth to the already folk-influenced atmosphere of the album. It doesn't hurt, either, that the songwriting is fantastic; this is some of the most emotionally evocative musical material I've ever heard, and if not for the fact that Ayreon's The Human Equation came out the same year, this would be my runaway favourite for best album of 2004.

Yeah, that was a pretty good album.

Queensryche - I Don't Believe in Love

A pretty nice song, one of their slower ones, but what would I expect from a title like this? I probably said something about this song already, though. I listen it to a lot.
