David Bowie - "Heroes"

A classic song, which isn't surprising when you consider all the talent that went into making it; Brian Eno co-wrote and produced it, and I'm pretty sure Robert Fripp guests on guitar. I'd been neglecting Bowie for far too long, really.

Wolves in the Throne Room - (A Shimmering Radiance) Diadem of Twelve Stars

A flawless black metal album that manages to expand on many aspects of the traditional ideology and mythology behind the genre in ways that were virtually unprecedented before its release. The songs are epic without ever getting boring; the album is an hour in length despite containing only three songs. The atmosphere is fantastic as well. Definitely one of the best releases in 2006, and if not for Drudkh's Blood in Our Wells I'd give the album of the year nod to it without question.

Autolux - Future Perfect

If your a Sonic Youth, Interpol or Bloc Party fan then this album is right up your street. Can't believe I looked this up because the guitar player form +44 selected it as one of his favourites on some MTV take-over thing.
