Metallica - One

IMO one of the best Metallica songs, maybe one of the best metal songs ever written.

I'll have to agree there, though I still like Fade to Black and Welcome Home (Sanitarium) slightly more.

Sacramentum - Far Away from the Sun

This album almost renders the rest of the entire genre of blackened death metal obsolete. A definite masterpiece.

Puff Daddy - I'll be missing you

Because i realized that the death date of my mum is coming up pretty soon, and this song fits my mood pretty well right now. And, for some reason, it gives me hope that i'll see her again one day...

Speaking of Puff Daddy
Puff Daddy and Biggie Smalls- Victory

Its my workout song, and I decided to start working out again for the summer.

Nyktalgia - Exitus Letalis

slow, mournful black metal from Germany, strongly reminiscent of Burzum but somehow more expansive. Looking forward to their new album later this year.

into:

Ulver - Hymne I: Wolf and Fear

This album is unquestionably one of the highlights of the genre. If there's anything else this vicious and ferocious in the genre, I haven't heard it yet.

DJ Unk ft. T-Pain, E-40, and ??? (forgotten)- 2 step Remix

Watching the Naruto version remix is so awesome. This kid has talent when creating the video. As for the music. I find nothing crude about the lyrics. It's just a party song. That's it.

A Perfect Circle - Annihilation

A spoken word track, but still very melodic. I quite like it, it's getting more than it's fair share of plays to be honest.

Pomp and Circumstance

The graduation card that my sister sent was a musical one and it played this. I was filling out thank you notes today and I opened hers to see what she gave me, and now the song's been stuck in my head. It's actually not that bad.

On a side note, I always thought it was Pompous Circumstance. =/

Ulver - Hymne II: Wolf and the Devil

Aggressive, hard-hitting black metal, some of the best of the genre. Pretty much perfect for midnight listening.

Kora - Burning.

Definitely the height of local dub/reggae. Though while not technically brilliant compared to some other bands like Fat Freddy's Drop, they still manage to impress, and their live performances are nothing less than fantastic.

In the Woods... - 299 796 km/s

Atmospheric avant-garde black metal from Norway. This group is pretty damn fantastic and I'm not terribly proud of myself for putting off listening to them for as long as I did.

Shihad - All The Young Fascists.

Local rock/metal, decent but not brilliant. This song is fairly good, but the album it's from - Love is the new Hate - isn't exactly the best album ever. Still, I don't mind it, it's certainly better than other albums by the band.

Diabolical Masquerade - 10th Movement: Someone Knows What Scares You/A Bad Case of Nerves/The Inverted Dream/No Sleep in Peace/Information/Setting the Course

From their album Death's Design, which is an immense epic of weirdness. One of the highlights of 2001, really.

The Verve | Sonnet

Figured I'd try some of their other songs besides Bittersweet Symphony. Another great one by them.

Hate Forest - As the Sunlight Dies

The short, rapid-fire nature of the songs on this album, which all segue directly into one another, helps establish an atmosphere of urgency and intensity that's rarely found even in the genre of black metal, and stands to distinguish the sound of this album from the rest of their catalog. Pretty monumental stuff, although Drudkh, who share two band members with this now-defunct band, are arguably even better. This album was a pretty solid way for Hate Forest to end its career, though.
