Default Favorite Bands

Share your favorite bands that aren't super popular.

Against Me! is by far my favorite band, they're a kind of an odd mix between Punk and Folk and Grunge. They make some really catchy music, and you dont have to really be a fan of any of those genres (I got my entire residence floor last year loving them, and they all had different tastes in music).

I've seen them live 5 times, and they're by far one of the best live bands I've ever seen, and Ive gone to a lot of concerts.

Dream Theater although I can't be too sure on their popularity. I only found them because someone I knew listened to them.

I'm basically obsessed with a progressive metal band called Dream Theater. It's weird because they're not super popular, but 3/4 people I show them to likes them. They've been playing for 20 years, and just had their 20th anniversary tour last year. They have 8 full length albums, and lots of epic songs, as is typical of a prog. band. If you're into a lot of the heavier stuff, I'd suggest listening to some songs from their Train of Thought album. If you really like prog. then their Awake album will probably interest you. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is a good mix of heavy songs and prog.

Anyway, they're supposed to be releasing their 9th full length album in spring/summer this year, and I can hardly wait, because they haven't even peaked as a band yet. Their last album was their best yet. So jump on the Dream Theater bandwagon, it's not too late!

well, if two people comment they must be good huh!

I've heard about the new album that's going to be released just didn't know when. Also another really good prog rock band is Trans Siberian Orchestra which play classical and christmas music but add rock instruments to it and give them a new style.

Super popular in which country? That could change quite a bit most of the bands I put down...but basically ones that aren't very famous anywhere: ALI PROJECT, BUCK-TICK, Girugamesh, Kana and Madeth Gray'll.

Define "super popular." I'm getting rid of bands like Beatles, Pink Floyd and Pixies from my list but I don't really know where to draw the line

!T.O.O.H.!, Akercocke, Apotheosis, Astarte, Atheist, Ayreon, Syd Barrett, Bathory, Between the Buried and Me, Jello Biafra, Borknagar, Burning Witch, Cult of Luna, Cynic, Darkthrone, Dead Kennedys, Death, Deathspell Omega, Ani DiFranco, Drudkh, Edge of Sanity, Enslaved, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Gorguts, Hollenthon, Immortal, The Kovenant, Lunar Aurora, Lux Occulta, Lykathea Aflame, Moonsorrow, Nagelfar, Neurosis, Nocte Obducta, Orphaned Land, Mike Patton, Sigh, Sigur Rós, A Silver Mt. Zion, Solefald, Thorns, Tiamat, Ulver, Weakling, Wintersun, Wolves in the Throne Room, Wyrd, Zarathustra

still a pretty long list, obv

You could just look at profiles, but yah, if we're getting rid of the "Super Popular" thing, then here's a list of mine;

Dragonforce, Dreamtale, Edguy, Hammerfall, Power Quest, Folkearth, Orden Ogan, Pyramaze, Rhapsody, Persuader, Saratoga, Thy Majestie, Yngwie Malmsteen, Warmen, Turisas, Sonata Arctica, Children of Bodom, Kamelot, Axenstar, Manticora, Gamma Ray, Stratovarius, Dream Theater, Dream Evil, Crystal Ball, Avantasia, Manowar, Highlord, Rebellion, Valhalla, Axxis, HIM, Nightwish, Candlemass, Shadow Warriors, Therion, Soilwork, WASP, Thunderstone, Stonegard, Last Tribe, Einherjer, Circus Maximus, Cellador, Dragonland, Battlelore, Battleroar, Blood Stain Child, Elvenking, In Flames, Hevein, Norther, Helloween, Heed, Rudra, Running Wild.

As for Dream Theater; Mike Portnoy is by far the best drummer of all time, and Petrucci is damn sure as hell awesome on the guitar. Dream Theater rock.

I'll define 'Popular' as Mainstream Bands in the Western World. If you people dissagree, I'll change it.

♪♪ Malice Mizer, Dir en grey, An Cafe, Kagrra, Moi Dix Mois, Schwarz Stein, Utada Hikaru, YUI, ORANGE RANGE, Miyabi, Polysics, Plastic Tree, Gackt, Do As Infinity, WaT, Zwei, Psycho Le Cemu, Olivia, Mothercoat, Goatbed, GLAY, X JAPAN, ELLEGARDEN, D'espair Ray

Well, I can't offer my own opinion,as I havn't heard Mastodon's drummer, but Portnoy has been in many drumming magazines as the best drummer, voted by lots of people.

I'm a bass player myself, so I don't really care who the best drummer is.

I've been listening to a lot of Of Montreal lately. Their songs are really catchy.
