Default FFXIII- The Last FF?

There have been some rumors that Final Fantasy XIII will be the last FF title and that they will continue on other projects for the PS3 and future systems. What do you think of this? Should they just move on and go out at this point or go out later on in the years?

I have heard rumours that it is the last one...I think they will go bankrupt if they end it but idk.

Seriously doubt that SE will dump the FF series since it still makes them a tonne of cash still, they won't announce FFXIV when XIII is still almost two years away so you'll have to wait. And they have bought the domain names for FFXIV and FFXV so they are going to consider making them at least.

I wouldn't want them to stop making the series persoanlly but I would like them to stop with pointless spinoffs and cut down on the futuristic settings.

Concurred. But, as long as it continues making them money, they'll continue doing it.

But, there must be SOME cut off age wouldn't you agree? Having a series that goes for so long can make it seem unwanted as a such.

Meh. I don't see any other game developers racing to cancel their series because they've been in existence twenty years. Hell, Mario's been around even longer than that, if you count the Donkey Kong games.

Oh, right. But Final Fantasy at least has almost 100% unique elements in every new game. Mario saves Peach from Bowser =\ Never saw that coming. But, I myself want the series to run hot until I die, whenever that is.

Meh, so does Dragon Quest, and it's even older than the FF series even if there haven't been as many titles.

....Come on, the newer FF game suck. If they stop making them it'll be because they're losing money off it.

I personally disagree. I like the newer FF's. I just think the story lines and the gameplay needs to be alittle more thought out. It's just lacking in that area. >>;;

It's all down to one thing; money. They couldn't give a **** about your personal enjoyment if they're putting more dollars in their back pockets. So the answer to this is; how many people care enough to pull £50 out of their bank and put it down for a computer game? I know I won't.

Exactly. The Final Fantasy series will continue to live on until Square begins to lose money. I know I'll probably continue to buy all the Final Fantasies that continue to be released, even if they do grow repetitive. Now for a computer game, Square can just go to hell on that part.

I agree. In the real world, life is all about money. SE will keep plopping the FF's out until they lose money from them.

Well Square-Enix is a gaming company in a world of business out to make money. As long the Final Fantasy series is worth their while they will continue to elaborate on it. Not to mention that they haven't even established a series that can replace Final Fantasy when it retires. (KH doesn't really count) Why even make another series when you can continue with the flagship series anyways. I really do not see Final Fantasy retiring anytime in the near future.

Final Fantasy's not going to retire anytime soon, but the Dragon Quest series sells nearly as well as it, and I think it sells better in Japan. They actually close Japan's school system on the days new Dragon Quest games come out because they know no one's going to bother attending classes there anyway.

I wish America was that cool. Closing school the day FFXII was released would have been awesome. I mean, I wouldn't have gotten it, but I'd have a day off.

And I think that pretty much sums up why we don't get the day off in honor of a video game's release. XD

I do kinda agree that they should stop putting in the futeristic setting but hell, I highly doubt that SE would stop making FF unless they had some really huge FF game that would give them a good sendoff. Also they just started putting in new things into FF12, like a new type of, (so to say) more advanced battle system and a new way to play FF.

Indeed. Although the futuristic idea does tend to appeal to the western market. I think they should go back to the fantasy setting instead of falling back on the Sci-Fi aspect. But yeah SE will keep pumping out FF's so long as there are fans to buy them. Granted eventually the originality may take a nose dive but they'll probably would be willing to pay that price.

Plenty of people have argued that it already has, not entirely without grounds. Of course, I haven't played FFXII yet.
