If they believe in "one more God" then they stop becoming atheists. They don't believe in other Gods because their faithe is in Christianity. It's what they believe. "We", as in atheists, don't believe in any God's because that's what we believe. It is what fits for us. It makes the most sense to us. Religions will never understand any other religions fully - they can know their principals, teachings, etc... But when it comes to the faith everything goes out the window. It's like saying to a Muslim or a Jew "So why don't you come and be a christian? " Admittadly, there are those who "convert" but this is because they have found something stronger and more compelling to believe in. |

I just don't see the point in saying "I'm an atheist for every God except one! " That makes you not an atheist. It's like saying "i don't support any football teams except one! " Well, why say that instead of "I only support one football team".. seems like a pretty pointless thing to bring in atheism when it's just being cancelled out by theism. |

The Christian disbelieves in other religions primarily because he postulates that those religions have provided no viable proof, yet in many cases without having undertaken a thorough study of those religions. The quote is meant to encourage people to engage in critical thinking and conclude that perhaps many people only believe in a given religion because they were indoctrinated into it when they were young.

A much better explanation (although i knew that already), rather than "Christians are atheists except for one God!"
It goes the extra, and necessary, legnth to explain the beefits of critical thinking, hyporcrisy and posibilities of being born in to religion. |

I'm not asking for everything to be spelled out for me, I enjoy intelligent discussions - that gets me thinking. However, when there's a simple way of saying something I don't see why it shouldn't be used. Quote:
And if this isn't the case then please explain why you felt it necessary to point out that particular typo out of every typo in the forum - technically it's spam in the one place spam isn't tolerated. |

Phrasing the quote in a simpler manner wouldn't have made the point it makes as effectively as it does. And "yeah its" is an in-joke from LSD. It comes from the following post:

I'm one of those people who was NOT indoctrinated into any religion at birth. Sure, I was christened, but that's about it. My family doesn't go to church, and never made me go. I was an atheist up until around March this year. I came to believe in Christianity because I felt something inside me, which I can only explain as God reaching out to me.
To all you skeptics, it wasn't gas, or a burp, I know what my inner bodily functions feel like thank you, and this was like nothing else. On the other hand, the reason I chose Christianity is because I believe Jesus was the son of God. That belief came about through prayer. I actually wondered whether I was making the right decision, but I was affirmed in my belief. Judaism is the backwards step from Christianity. They're still waiting for their "Jesus", and the Muslims rely on endless prayer that is pretty much done by rote. Christianity feels right because prayer is something that is personal, rather than something that feels like a ritual. Anyway, that's why I chose Christianity over other religions. |
