Girl One: "So I met this guy from Denmark, and he wants me to come visit him."
Girl Two: "Dude, you should! Drive over and see him!" Girl Three: "Wait, your mom would let you drive to New Hampshire?" I firmly believe that Girl Two should be thrown out of college and Girl Three should be denied a diploma for at least two more years. Girl One is very intelligent, so she's fine. These people get to go to better colleges than I do because their parents are loaded. That's a bunch of ****. |

Meh, it could be worst. You could have no educational system and a country full of dimwitted drunks (not that I have anything against drunkards or dimwitted people).
As for this "disintellectualisation" (I doubt that's a word), I believe it's a remnant of the baby-boom (the generation born post-WWII, from '45 to '65). During the seventies, people decided that there wouldn't be an intellectual elite anymore (which I more or less agree upon), and that everything should be demystified, watered down for the "average" person. Unfortunately, they might have gone a tad too far in some cases (especially literature), which might be why people sometimes refer to our era (post-modernism) as "the end of ideologies". Although I doubt that's true, it's amusing at any rate. Anyway, my point is, people who dislike "intellectual" matters aren't necessarily dumb, and anyone who decides to "go with the flow" isn't necessarily an idiot. They're simply doing what people expect them to, and if you should qualify (in a pejorative manner) them of anything, it'd be weak-willed (or lacking any "will to power"). I'm not sure this whole post makes sense with the topic, but I had fun writing it anyway.

I totally hear you, honestly. Some people do NOT think about what they're about to say, when they raise their hand to comment during a lecture. And some are jaw-droppingly shocking - you just can't believe that at this level of institutionalized education, one would bring that up. Call that misinformation, whatever. I can't think of an example at the moment, but yea, I can definitely relate.
