All I have to say is that I HATE stupid people with a passion. I am in my fifth semester at university, and each semester I find myself wondering how certain people even got accepted; now that I'm an upper-division under-graduate (Junior) I'm wondering how some made it to the 300 level courses.
During break in my U.S. Foreign Policy class, some chick was trying desperately to talk and flirt with a guy sitting next to me. She was asking him to explain everything the teacher had JUSt said--like because he is saying it (in the same exact way), it'll make sense. Even if it was just her trying to get him to keep talking to her, it was pretty lame. Couldn't she be a little more creative? Then I overhear that she's a history student focusing on America...but she had no idea that the USSR and US were at odds during the Cold War! Isn't hat something you learn at least by high school? Jesus Christ! I have plenty of stories from my world history class from last year as well, but I'm not sure I want to get into all those. One is great, though: Our teacher was explaining to us (although I already knew) that people in Greece/Italy used to take baths in oil since they had no soap--they'd let it harden and then chip off. One girl raised her hand and said, "but didn't they have a soap plant?" Or in a government: Professor: Can anyone tell me what a bureaucracy is? Girl: Is it a type of government? "Well, no ****!" That is all. I feel like it's an extention of high school. It makes me sad. Why are these people in places of higher education? |

Hm i see what you mean, some people do not deserve it, like i mean in year 8 you learn about governments and all, and if your in a class about Governments or thats the genre for the semester or something, then of course you will be talking about governments so only one would guess its a type. I mean C'mon.

EXACTLY! I'm glad you see the logic in all this. Not exactly in a government class to study botany, now are we?
Some people make me want to shove a pencil in my eye...but then I'd have to get a glass one or wear a patch...I think the whole pirate fascination will pass after the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie comes out...so I'll keep the eye. But the urge is there! |

It seems to me that you're just jealous, because she found a way to get this guy's attention, and you couldn't. Now, everything she does irritates you greatly, to the point where you'll rant about how you want her removed from the university on an internet forum.
I could be wrong. ![]() |

Vayne: Yes, there are some. For THOSE I am grateful.
Ravioli: Nah. He wasn't my type. It's the fact that she's a history major, in a level 300 course, at one of the best schools in the system, and she didn't know the USSR and the US were the major players in the Cold War. On a more general level, I'm irritated by people's inability to listen to a professor and retain any of the information, or use their common sense. To me, it seems like admissions are a little relaxed when it come to accepting people into the system. EDIT: I should mention that all the people mentioned were different, so it's not like I have a vendetta against this one chick. Also, I'm not saying I want her kicked out. I'm just wondering how people like these get into the system in the first place. It's more a rant on admissions than anything else. |

I admit my SAT's weren't exactly shining but some of the people that came in during the last semester litteraly amazed me with the sheer lack of common sense. For instance, I'm a sophmore last semester I had to take a general philosophy course that was a core class (for freshmen and a required class) and most of it was common sense. Yet there were some who were too busy talking about what they were going to do the following friday and then after the class, they would ask questions about the most basic of stuff.
But what really takes the cake is that I work the late night shift at the cafeteria and we serve pizza and sandwiches and to tell the truth, if some students had any lack of common sense in the class rooms, they left it at the door when they went to late night. Some stories are that I've served drunks on several occasions, one where the girl couldn't even stand on her own and some freshmen were talking about a party where someone had spiked someone's drink with some drug and they were casual about it as if that was the norm. Along with that are that during late night, we're open from 8:30 to Midnight and we don't serve anyone who comes in earlier or later. Yet some people have yet to figure this out since they come around 8:05 and wonder why we can't serve them and there's my personal favorite, the people come in around 11f:45 even though I'm trying to clean up tables as we're getting ready to close up. Another one is that we make our own bread for sandwiches for late night and we offer several types but that isn't enough for some people who ask why we can't let them have the other types of bread and even after I have to take two minutes to explain that it's the deli's bread, not ours and we provide our own bread, they just shrug it off and go "Alright I'll just have a plain." Honestly. It's no surprise how I've been able to develop an appreciation for Hobbes' view on humanity.

You want to know what's the best part? It doesn't even end when you leave school. It gets worse!

You know what, though, I appreciate intelligent people infinately more than I used to. I can't tell you how enthralled I am with decent conversations. Unfortunately no one I know wants to talk philosophy, politics, history or astronomy...so I'm **** outta luck ![]() |
